"As a child, I lived in the countryside
and watching Chinese street operas was our main form of entertainment.
Through my childhood eyes, the costumes were spectacular, the
music was mesmerising, and the stories of Chinese legends captivated
me and kept me spellbound for hours on end. The fascination
with stage performances remains with me until today and I still
enjoy operas, musicals and plays. It's a great way to relax,
and the opportunity to allow oneself to be completely absorbed
by a performance and its music is food for the soul." |

"I love musicals. The music,
the words and the choreography often spin a tale more convincing
and touching than words alone can convey. The creativity and
complexity involved in the production of any musical never fails
to astound me and I can't help but admire the producers and
directors who manage to pull together all the different elements
of song, dance, dialogue, costumes and staging into a single,
coherent production. Watching a live performance on stage always
makes my heart sing and my feet tap! After every show, I walk
away feeling rejuvenated." |

"I enjoy watching dance performances.
Dance is the ultimate visual representation of the imagination.
I am constantly amazed by the creativity of choreographers and
the talent, grace and beauty of dancers who execute complex
movements into a visually charged presentation. The movement
of the dancers, the co-ordination of their entire body and their
facial expression is mesmerising. It stirs my senses and draws
me into a whole new world of dance, music and magic." |

"Since my childhood days, I have
loved singing. Whenever I hear a nice catchy song, I can't help
but sing along. Singing helps me to relax especially when something
is bothering me. Even at work, when I am deep in concentration,
I may start to hum or whistle a tune! Singing is also a great
way for good friends to spend time together. I honestly cant
imagine what life would be like without the fun and spontaneity
music brings to it." |

"Art to me is about human expression.
What I enjoy about art isn't so much the specific art form,
but the excellence in execution that the artist has achieved.
The wonderful thing about art is that it engages all your senses
and invokes a whole gamut of emotions. It can entertain, inspire,
disturb, amuse or simply inform. It makes you experience and
appreciate humanity and the world we live in." |

"I enjoy the art of architecture
and love exploring old fortresses, castles and cathedrals. Fortresses
were usually built on high ground with panoramic views of the
countryside. Castles were built for physical protection and
to provide comfort to the rulers and their retinue. Cathedrals,
on the other hand, were designed to meet the spiritual needs
of the people.
Great architects are therefore creative geniuses who balance
aesthetics with functional needs. They are artists, scientists
and engineers blended into one. We continue to see great masterpieces
today in the vastly more complicated and sophisticated large-scale
systems. The masterpieces of Systems Architects have become
as inspiring as the great architectures of the past." |

"I enjoy opera which is a complex
mix of drama, dance and music with staging and costumes and
centres around the universal human condition and experience
from the sublime to the ridiculous. For me, it also marks the
evolution of my own musical exposure and education from neighbourhood
Chinese street operas through Baroque music and jazz, coming
a full circle to my current passion for the opera. What's next?
Wagner." |

"Ive always been a 'Jack
of all trades but master of none' when it comes to the arts.
Fortunately, my early piano-playing interest has left me with
a music-reading ability to enjoy light classical and gospel
music today. With my limited latent artistic knowledge, I am
also able to admire the polished virtuosity of lead musicians
playing their hearts out on stage, the controlled awesomeness
of singing maestros, and the masterly nimbleness of twirling
dancers. For this, I am thankful in my old age!" |
