About Dividends

What is your dividend payout policy?
The Group has been paying out 100% of its net earnings as dividends over the last four financial years. While dividend payouts may be affected by cash flow requirements, the Group aims to be consistent in its dividend policy with a focus on providing shareholder value.

How often do you distribute dividends and when is your ex-dividend and dividend payment date?
Since inception in 1997, ST Engineering has declared first and final dividends every year. Ex-dividend date for dividends declared for the preceding financial year is usually in late April or early May and payment date is usually later in May.  The Group has started distributing interim dividends on its ordinary dividends from 2007.  This means that the Group has started paying dividends twice a year from 2007.

Why is it that your final dividends are declared in February but payment is in May?
Under the Singapore Companies Act, our final dividend declared in February after yearend results announcement would require shareholders' approval. As such, ex-dividend date and payment date can only be determined after the Company's annual general meeting, which is typically held at end April.

What do you mean by "one-tier" in your dividends declared?
From 2003 onwards, ST Engineering's dividends are based on one-tier tax system. As such, dividends declared after 2002 will not be taxed the corporate tax rate. Shareholders will received the net amount of dividends as announced. Thereafter, shareholders will be taxed on dividend income based on their individual tax brackets after the annual income assessment from Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore.

When do shareholders typically receive ST Engineering's annual report and when is your annual general meeting?
Shareholders typically receive the ST Engineering's annual report in early April and our annual general meeting will be held sometime in end April.

I am happy reading the annual report online and I do not wish to receive hardcopies of the annual reports. How do I request for this?
Under the Singapore Companies Act, every shareholder must receive a copy of the company's annual report, be it in a summary or a full version. The online version is developed for investors' convenience but hardcopy distribution is still necessary to fulfill regulatory requirements.

My family receives several copies of ST Engineering's annual report every year. To avoid wastage, can you make sure that only one copy is sent to each household?
Under the Singapore Companies Act, every shareholder must receive a copy of the company's annual report, be it in a summary or a full version. We understand that this may lead to wastage, for example having more than one copy delivered to each household. However, the current regulatory environment does not provide for such a distinction.

Are there plans to produce a summary report for shareholders to help reduce costs?
We have explored the option of producing both an abridged version and a full version. Due to our shareholder base of over 30,000, the large print quantity helps to reduce the print cost per copy. A comparison of costs showed that the cost savings arising from doing both versions were negligible.  However, we will continue to evaluate our options to ensure the most cost effective methods.
