Network Centric | Precision Strike | Unmanned Systems | Homeland Security

The future defence force will increasingly fight as a tightly linked and integrated entity. Armed forces are increasingly leveraging on information and technologies to attain combat superiority. The emphasis is now on collaborative network-centric systems instead of the traditional platform based capabilities, enabling force networking.

Singapore Technologies Engineering's (ST Engineering) various Centres of Excellence provide the technological capabilities to design and integrate systems and platforms, resulting in cost-effective force modernisation to avoid technology obsolescence.

Increasingly, unmanned systems being employed to replace humans in dangerous missions and weapons that offer precision strike to reduce collateral damage.

In an era of increased terrorism, defence technologies are increasingly being adapted for homeland security, including perimeter security and urban operations, to protect our homefront and way of life. Governments, private enterprises and communities can be safeguarded with technological solutions which monitor, protect and respond to emergency situations.

Network-Centric

Network-centric capabilities allow commanders to visualise threats and assets in a manner like never before. The timeliness of information on activities within the areas of operations or battlespace enables commanders to prioritise and allocate combat resources judiciously, minimising friendly casualties while maximising damage to hostile forces.

Command decisions on the use of fire-power can now be based on information collated from battlefield sensors like unmanned sensors and surveillance platforms, and from information gathered from other battlefield systems; all disseminated within a secured information network.

This accessibility and integration is achieved through a System-of-Systems approach - designing and developing systems that work with other systems, and systems which integrate several systems to work as a holistic entity. Platforms and their weapons with advanced fire control systems are made "digital-ready" to be plugged into this digitalised battlefield.

Examples of some products offered by ST Engineering are shown in the diagram below.

Precision Strike

Precise fire-power is the key to success in the new battlefield. ST Engineering designs, manufactures and integrates precision strike sub-systems such as flight control units, warheads and propulsion units (rocket motors). ST Engineering also specialises in design and production of smart medium calibre weapon systems capable of delivering precise air-burst munitions.

Together with our technology collaborators, our focus in precision strike includes areas such as systems engineering, design and development of guidance and navigation control systems, and simulation studies.

Unmanned Systems

Unmanned Systems is one of the key components in Force Transformation. It eases the workload and demand on the operators and replaces humans in dangerous missions. Unmanned systems can greatly lower the number of war casualties while providing an edge in deploying intelligence-gathering systems.

ST Engineering is an integrated solution provider for unmanned systems, providing a family of platforms with a full suite of capabilities, offering system-of-systems solutions as well as life cycle support including training. These are either fully developed inhouse or through alliances and partnerships with strategic defence industry players and research institutes.

ST Engineering's suite of products and capabilities in unmanned systems include:

Homeland Security

ST Engineering's capabilities and technologies in aerospace, electronics, land systems and marine provide the basic building blocks for the delivery of comprehensive integrated homeland security solutions including:
