ST Electronics Showcases Advanced Combat Man System

One of the World's Most Advanced Soldier System at Singapore Airshow 2010 Exhibition

Singapore, 1 February 2010 - ST Electronics showcases its latest Advanced Combat Man System (ACMS) at the Singapore Airshow 2010 (SA2010) Exhibition.

The ACMS is a 3rd Generation Networked Warrior System that is fully equipped with advanced C4I (Command, Control, Communications, Computers and Intelligence) and networking capabilities.  A joint development effort of the Defence Science and Technology Agency (DSTA), the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) and ST Electronics with the support of ST Kinetics in the area of weapon sub-system, the ACMS features state-of-the-art technologies and innovations from ST Electronics and ST Kinetics.

The ACMS transforms the soldier into a digitised warfighter with a full suite of wearable C4I systems integrated seamlessly into his weapon, helmet and load-bearing vest.  Linked to its lightweight wearable computer is a whole range of modular systems such as indoor and outdoor navigational systems, head-mounted display, day and night cameras, soldier radio system for voice and data communications, and Ad Hoc Network Communication System.

With a customised Soldier Battlefield Management System (SBMS), the ACMS enables the digitised soldier to accurately track his position as well as those of friendly forces, mark the hostile forces, engage his targets effectively, exchange information with other soldiers and systems in the network, and call for fire and combat service support efficiently.

Lightweight, good ergonomics and efficient electrical power management are the three most important considerations in the design of the ACMS to meet the demanding operational requirements of dismounted soldiers.

The ACMS ensures seamless integration of the individual soldier's fighting capabilities as well as integrating the soldier into a whole network of fighting forces, weapons and C4I systems.  It aims to improve the situational awareness, command and control, lethality and survivability of the soldier, resulting in a quantum leap in his fighting capabilities.

ST Electronics was contracted to provide the ACMS to the SAF.  The introduction of the ACMS is a part of the SAF's 3rd Generation Transformation to progressively provide tactical units with network capabilities, which are vital for ensuring mission success.

Ad Hoc Network Communication System in ACMS
A unique feature of the ST Electronics' ACMS is the use of its in-house developed Ad Hoc Network Communication System for efficient data and file transfer.

The system's small form factor, low power consumption and ease of integration make it an ideal communication solution for soldier systems, sensor networks, and mobile platforms.
