Design & Engineering

We make targeted improvements to additive manufactured parts to maximise performance. These enhancements are made possible through:

  • Design with specific and printable features
  • Rapid protoyping that enables quick visualisation, evaluation and testing of designs, concepts, or parts
  • Strategic pairing of materials and systems
  • Topology optimisation – the removal of material where it is not required – to achieve the most efficient way to design a component with AM-enabled design freedoms
  • Print optimization that ensures the best orientation to pack and print parts using in-house systems. We can maximise the part quality while minimising printing time, cost, and material usage.

Qualified Systems & Workflow Processes

We have developed a series of proprietary process specifications, which has been accepted by the European Union Aviation Safety Agency and the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore, ensuring complete process controls that cover:

  • Material management
  • Printing execution
  • Inspection
  • Post-processing

Our qualified systems include:

  • Filament layer manufacturing of Ultem 9085 (engineering polymer) using Fortus 900MC
  • Polymer laser sintering of PA2241FR (fire-retardant nylon) using EOS P396
  • Direct metal laser sintering of AlSi10Mg (aluminium alloy) using EOS M290

We also possess defined design and production interfacing procedures to ensure an integrated workflow for optimised quality and safety.

Post-Processing

Successful 3D printing of the component does not always mean it is ready for use. There are necessary post-processing steps to ensure form and function go hand in hand, that the component is aesthetically complete and durable as promised.

Our post-processing know-how comprises:

  • Performance-enhancing processes such as tailored heat treatment
  • Surface smoothening and polishing
  • Surface enhancement, painting and finishing
  • Assembly and integration

With us, integration goes beyond providing customers with an end-to-end solution to all their needs. We also integrate changes to our design and print processes to minimise post-processing needs.

Validation & Verification

Additive manufacturing, while gaining traction, remains more a novelty than the norm within the aviation industry. To boost user confidence, all our AM materials, processes, and products are put through a rigorous validation and verification programme.

We have established our own qualified, proprietary workflow and processes through research and development, careful statistical studies and continuous testing.

The verification and validation process on our products and prints could comprise any combination of:

  • Design value/performance tests
  • Material and product flammability tests
  • End-product proof load tests
  • Service simulation tests
  • Co-printed articles for witness testing
  • Physical tests to validate our digital simulations

Global Certification Options

In the aviation industry, components meant for flight operations must be certified before they can be installed on aircraft. With our certification network and track record with the various aviation authorities, we are able to provide customers with certified parts and solutions.

Our available global certification options include:

  • Federal Aviation Authority Organisation Designation Authorisation (FAA ODA)
  • European Aviation Safety Agency Design Organisation Approval and Production Organisation Approval (EASA DOA and POA)
  • Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore Design Organisation Approval and Production Organisation Approval (CAAS DOA and POA)
