Based in Mobile, Alabama, we are an experienced provider of aircraft maintenance and modification services for both commercial airlines and air freight operators. 

A world-class aircraft MRO service provider
VT Mobile Aerospace Engineering, Inc., (previously ST Aerospace Mobile, Inc.) began operations at Brookley Aeroplex in Mobile, Alabama in 1991. Today, we are a business unit of the aerospace division of VT Systems, which has more than 1,300 employees and operates nearly 900,000 square feet of hangar space, support shops, offices and ramp space. In Mobile, we can accommodate eight wide-body or 18 narrow-body aircraft simultaneously in our 10 large hangars.

We have dedicated buildings housing our training, engineering, and material warehouse operations, and an environmentally controlled engine storage facility. Our hangars have direct access to the Mobile Downtown Airport’s (airport code BFM) 24/7 operational runway.

Maintenance
As a world-class aircraft MRO service provider, we offer comprehensive aircraft maintenance and modification (AMM) services to an extensive range of airframe types, ensuring safe and reliable aircraft operation at all times.

We have the tooling, equipment, training, support shops and experience to perform all levels of checks for a wide variety of Boeing and Airbus planes, including the 737, 747, 777 and A300/310, A320, A330 and A340.

We have experience in heavy C and D checks, and in-house capabilities for detailed aircraft inspections, damage assessments and all major non-destructive inspection methods.

Structural Capabilities
Our structural capabilities and track record in performing major structural repairs and modifications – such as winglet installation, pylon modification, floor beams repair, corrosion control, wing and fuselage skins replacement, and reconstruction of damaged structures – are well recognised in the industry. Our customers often call upon us to perform field repairs of aircraft.

Support Shops
We have a comprehensive suite of support shops to enhance our maintenance services. These support shops service, repair and fabricate machined parts, composite structures, aircraft floorboards and cabin items and tubing and hoses.

We also provide total support services to an airline. The customised services provided in a Total Support program and Maintenance-By-the-Hour pricing arrangement include line and base maintenance, maintenance planning and control, aircraft maintenance, IT systems and more.

    We are fully certified by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) as an approved Repair Station. Our quality management system is certified to ISO 9001 and AS9100 standards. It is designed to meet the most stringent airworthiness requirements of our customers and regulatory agencies. Year-round internal and external audits and surveillance ensure that our people and processes comply with all regulatory standards.

    Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)
    We are a certified Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Section 145.53 repair station. Our Air Agency Certificate number is MZAR013L.

    Following a positive recommendation from the FAA and through the EASA special conditions as detailed in the Bilateral Aviation Safety Agreement (BASA) and associated Maintenance Implementation Procedures (MIP), EASA has accepted and certified us as an approved Part-145 repair station.  Our EASA Part-145 Approval certificate number is EASA.145.4891.

    ISO 9001:2008 Compliant

    We are certified by Det Norske Veritas (DNV) Management System (CERT-9234-2004-AQ-HOU-ANAB).

    The ISO 9000 family of standards relate to quality management systems and are designed to help organisations ensure they meet the needs of customers and other stakeholders. Our ISO 9001 quality management system is closely linked to the business and marketing plan and to customer needs.

    AS9100:2009 Compliant
    We are AS9100:2009 compliant as certified by Det Norske Veritas (DNV). The AS9100 standard is an international quality management standard specifically for the industry. It has been published in Europe as EN 9100, in the US as AS9100 and in the Asia Pacific as SJAC 9100. 

  • Modifications

    Our modification capabilities complement our maintenance services. 

    We have the unique ability to design and develop engineering solutions and then perform the modifications here in our Mobile facilities. These may range from simple modifications such as refreshing the aircraft cabin or upgrading the in-flight entertainment system to complex passenger-to-freighter conversions.

    Special Freighter Supplemental Type Certificate
    One of our most extensive and recent modification programmes is our 757–200 Special Freighter Supplemental Type Certificate (STC). Our responsibilities here include developing the Statement of Work with the customer, submission of a certification plan in support of the STC application and designing the modifications to the airframe, and entire aircraft and avionics systems to accept the new cargo door and cargo handling systems.

    We also produce the detailed engineering drawings, and modification work cards, prepare detailed parts manufacturing drawings and mylars and work with partners and suppliers to develop and manufacture tooling and the modification kits.

    In addition, our customers trust us to perform substantiation analysis for structural loads, stress (inclusive of Finite Element Modelling), damage tolerance, payloads, electrical loads, egress and safety, cooling, smoke evacuation, and aerodynamics.

    They also expect us to plan, perform and conform the prototype modification, conduct ground and flight testing of the prototype, producing technical supplements and integrate fleet standardisation upgrades.

    Our team of design engineers and Designated Engineering Representatives (DER) has successfully developed variants of the initial STC to suit any customer’s requirements. Beyond the engineering development and certification of the prototype, we have the flexibility to ramp up production of the aircraft by adding lines of modification at our sister companies.
