Q: Tell us about your work.
I joined the Land Systems sector as a materials engineer at the Engineering Specialist Centre (ESC) in 2013. At ESC, I supported various defence projects, particularly in the area of corrosion prevention and control. My job also required me to do root cause failure analyses, recommend materials and develop design guidelines. After four years, I took up my current role as Account Manager in corporate planning.
My current role requires me to recommend a comprehensive suite of end-to-end integrated solutions to address customers' needs. In addition, I manage Land Transport Authority (LTA) projects and work with various business units on lead generation. I also identify new business opportunities and partnerships to drive sales.
Q: What motivates you at work?
I am a task-oriented person. Being able to complete tasks on time gives me immense satisfaction. More importantly, I have the opportunity to network with our customers and colleagues across ST Engineering Group. Every day, I am challenged to learn more, think on my feet and solve challenges as they come. My bosses trust me and empower me, and this gives me the confidence to push myself to exceed my goals.
Q: What is the most interesting project you have worked on?
Organising and overseeing the LTA-UITP Singapore International Transport Congress and Exhibition (SITCE) for the Land Systems sector's Commercial Business Group. At this tradeshow, we showcased our new rail capabilities to an international audience. This project required a lot of planning and coordination with colleagues from various functions in ST Engineering, as well as with our external partners.
Q: What is one misconception people always have about your job?
A common misconception is that my role is very focused. In reality, it is a multi-faceted role. I get the opportunity to do and learn a little of everything, from strategic planning to corporate marketing, from sales and business development to customer relationship management and even administrative duties. My roles give me a holistic view of our operations and this helps me to appreciate the challenges faced by different departments and therefore, find ways to collaborate efficiently.
Q: What do you find most meaningful about your job?
Seeing the smiles on our customers' faces tells me that they are satisfied with our great quality of work. Delivering good work helps to strengthen our reputation and brand in the market and builds customer loyalty in the long run. It is heartening to know that I can play a part in growing the business for the Group by strengthening our financials, building quality relationships, and growing new businesses for the Land Systems Singapore Business Group (SBG). Success is sweetest after much hard work.
