Signs MOA to extend maintenance support in Guangdong

Singapore, 3 June 2016ST Aerospace, the world’s leading aircraft maintenance and modification company, and Guangzhou Airport Authority, celebrated today 50 aircraft redeliveries from its Guangzhou airframe maintenance facility, to AirAsia.

The first aircraft was inducted into ST Aerospace’s Guangzhou-based hangar in January 2015, for C-level checks. This was followed by a steady stream of AirAsia’s A320 through the one and a half years, with the 50th aircraft redelivered to AirAsia’s revenue fleet today.

“Reliable and efficient aircraft maintenance is key to AirAsia’s operations, and we are very happy to be able to celebrate such a commendable milestone with our maintenance partner. ST Aerospace is no stranger to AirAsia. When our airline first started operations with five Boeing 737-300 aircraft almost 15 years ago, ST Aerospace supported us on our component rotables management requirements”, said Ms Aireen Omar, Executive Director and CEO for AirAsia Berhad. “It was an easy decision for us when we needed airframe maintenance support for our fleet in Guangzhou, knowing that their JV facility can immediately support our fleet. We are confident that ST Aerospace’s consistent work performance and reliability that we experienced in their other facilities, will be well established here, as evidenced by the very successful 50 aircraft redeliveries we are celebrating today.”

“The successful milestone redelivery of 50 aircraft from maintenance, within 78 weeks, speaks of the strong commitment by the JV partners to establish a robust maintenance capability for our customer, tapping on ST Aerospace’s engineering pedigree and the Guangzhou Airport Authority’s support”, said Mr Ang Chye Kiat, Executive Vice President, Aircraft Maintenance and Modification of ST Aerospace. “We believe in building long term relationships with our customers, and greatly value the opportunity to continue our support for AirAsia as they grow their business in this region.”

At the same time, ST Aerospace (Guangzhou) Aviation Services signed a Memorandum of Agreement with AirAsia at the redelivery event, to provide base maintenance for AirAsia’s fleet of 22 Airbus A320 aircraft for the second half of 2016, with plans for more support into 2017, and line maintenance in Guangdong, as AirAsia expands its route in Guangzhou and Guangdong province.

Operating out of the Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport since March 2014, ST Aerospace (Guangzhou) Aviation Services is a 49:51 joint venture between ST Aerospace and Guangdong Airport Authority. Marketed as part of ST Aerospace’s global network, the Guangzhou-based facility focuses on commercial airframe maintenance and modification services for a wide range of Airbus and Boeing aircraft.
