Singapore, 30 October 2018 – ST Engineering is bringing its expertise and capabilities in autonomous platforms and smart transportation beyond Singapore. The technology and engineering Group has tied up with the Israeli municipality of Ashdod to explore opportunities related to the potential development of products and solutions for the Ashdod and the Israeli market.
The agreement was signed by ST Engineering’s Chief Marketing Officer, Mr Chew Men Leong and Dr Smadar Itzkovich, Head of Industry Development Division – Ashdod Municipality, at the 6th Annual Smart Mobility Summit in Tel Aviv. The extent of the agreement covers various aspects of a city’s transportation network, including Intelligent Transportation System for roads, fleet management system for buses, and the development and testing of autonomous buses.
The Group’s suite of Intelligent Rail and Road Transport Solutions has a strong track record and has been deployed in more than 20 cities worldwide. Using Big Data Analytics and Machine Learning, these solutions will improve the city’s service quality of its transport systems and enhance commuter experience through real-time traffic and commuter sensing, supervisory and control capabilities, as well as early warning of potential service disruptions.
The Ashdod municipality has, in recent years, invested substantial resources in Smart Mobility proof of concepts and provided strong support to universities and international companies with a proving ground for technologies.
During the Summit, ST Engineering also announced its plans to set up an R&D centre in Israel to support its development of the Next Generation Autonomous Kit for buses. The R&D centre will provide opportunities for project teams to share their knowledge and experience in advanced sensors and AI technologies for AV platforms, as well as provide access to test sites for ST Engineering’s autonomous bus.
ST Engineering has announced its plans to scale up its end-to-end competencies to pursue growth opportunities in Smart City and expects its Smart City revenue of S$1b in 2017 to more than double by 2022. To date, it has more than 500 smart city projects in 70 cities under its belt.
