Employees continue to give back to community on International Volunteer Day

Singapore, 5 December 2022 – This International Volunteer Day, ST Engineering presented President Halimah Yacob with a cheque of $438,000 that the Group had raised for President’s Challenge 2022 through its employee wellness programme, ST Engineering MOVEment.[1] A strong supporter of President’s Challenge since 2000, ST Engineering has contributed more than $8 million to date to lift communities and empower lives.

The presentation took place at Xin Yuan Community Care, a beneficiary of the President’s Challenge 2022 where ST Engineering employees had organised a special day for the Xin Yuan seniors.  Themed A Movement of Hearts, 50 employee volunteers guided the seniors in folding origami hearts and flowers for a collaborative art piece, put up a mini concert as well as engaged them through their favourite activities from games to karaoke. Close to 300 employees and management also rallied behind-the-scenes to procure essential items for 280 goodie bags to gift Xin Yuan and its beneficiaries. In addition, ST Engineering presented a cheque for $22,000 to Xin Yuan in support of its operations.

President Halimah Yacob was also the Guest of Honour at the event where she put the finishing touch on the collaborative art piece with the multitude of hearts representing the care, love and support from individuals that unite and enrich a flourishing community.

President Halimah Yacob said, “For Singapore to thrive and stay socially cohesive, it is important that our community looks out and cares for one another. ST Engineering fully embodies this year’s International Volunteer Day theme – ‘Solidarity through Volunteering’ by forging stronger bonds internally with its employee volunteers and externally with its charity partner, Xin Yuan, via its community outreach initiative and unwavering support for President’s Challenge.”

Vincent Chong, Group President & CEO, ST Engineering added, “We advocate and support in-person volunteering to give back to the community. This year, our employees have worked in food kitchens, initiated and participated in donation drives, helped to clean facilities and befriended those in need of companionship. With Xin Yuan, they have gone all out to ensure a memorable time for its beneficiaries and in the process, build all-important connections and camaraderie. We are very heartened by our employees’ commitment and efforts to serve and uplift those in need, and will continue to contribute to such meaningful endeavours while maintaining our strong support for President’s Challenge.”

Vida Ortiz, Executive Director, Xin Yuan Community Care shared, “Today is a historic day for Xin Yuan to have close to 350 ST Engineering volunteers onsite and behind the scenes, the biggest corporate volunteer group we have engaged to date, touching the lives of our 280 beneficiaries, and more. We are deeply encouraged to experience first-hand this movement of hearts epitomised by the team from ST Engineering. The impact of today’s event along with the President and ST Engineering’s support will be remembered by our beneficiaries and staff for years to come. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to President Halimah Yacob and to ST Engineering for the immense contribution to our social cause.”

The Group pledged a dollar for every kilometre walked and every three kilometres cycled.
