$1 million charity pledge to President’s Challenge 2017 as part of 50th anniversary celebrations
Singapore, 22 July 2017 – As part of its 50th Anniversary celebration, ST Engineering has raised S$1.27 million for charity in 2017, with S$1 million going to the President’s Challenge 2017. Its Chairman, Kwa Chong Seng presented a S$1 million cheque to President Tony Tan at the ST Engineering 50th Anniversary Family Day held at the Palawan Green in Sentosa today. More than 14,000 employees and their family members, along with about 50 children and youths from Boys’ Town, CampusImpact, Reach Community Services Society and TOUCH Community Services were treated to a day of fun at Sentosa.
As part of its Golden Jubilee, ST Engineering initiated a year round fundraising and volunteering drive, including a Charity Golf held in May and an Employee Charity Draw over June and July that received tremendous support from its customers, partners and employees. The Group will contribute the rest of the fund raised to charities that are not directly covered by the President’s Challenge 2017.
On employee volunteerism, ST Engineering has called on its employees around the world to clock “50 Good Deeds” to celebrate the jubilee with the community. Employees from the Group are in progress of volunteering for causes they feel passionate about. Some of the Good Deeds that its employees have undertaken include conducting an industrial experiential programme for students of Assumption Pathway School, waterways clean-up in Marina Bay, blood donation drives and collection of ring tabs of canned drinks for the Prostheses Foundation in Thailand.
“50th anniversary is a major milestone and we have much to be proud of. What makes this Golden Jubilee more meaningful is that we have included the community in our celebration,” said Vincent Chong, President & CEO, ST Engineering. “Our employees have brought to life our celebration theme of ‘engineering with passion’, in their work contributing to the Group’s success and also in giving back to the community.”
Fund raising for charities and employee volunteerism are part of ST Engineering’s DNA. As an active supporter of the President’s Challenge, the Group has raised more than S$6 million over the years, including the $1 million raised this year. This amount does not include funds or its employees’ time contributed to other charities outside of the President’s Challenge.
