Singapore, 19 April 2018 – Singapore Technologies Engineering Ltd (ST Engineering) announced today that its electronics arm, Singapore Technologies Electronics Limited (ST Electronics), secured S$635m worth of contracts in the first quarter (1Q) of 2018. These included solutions in mobility, satellite communications, Internet of Things (IoT), public safety and security, cybersecurity and defence.
Mobility enabling connected, seamless and safe travel
ST Electronics extended its reach and increased market share globally in the rail electronics segment. Notable wins included a turnkey project for Sanying MRT line in New Taipei City, rail electronics solutions for Bangkok BTS SkyTrain, Bangkok Blue Line Extension, Guangzhou Metro Line 3, Taoyuan Airport MRT line and Taipei MRT line.
A contract was also secured for the maintenance and monitoring of airfield lighting systems for an airport operator in Asia. These projects will be delivered progressively.
Enhancing global connectivity through satellite communications
To enhance capabilities of the global satellite communications industry, the electronics sector is collaborating with Ghalam LLP, an Airbus Defence and Space joint venture based in Kazakhstan, to develop next-generation ground technologies. It also partnered Ireland-based Software Radio Systems to enhance video streaming experiences for users around the globe, at a reduced cost for network operators. In anticipation of the proliferation of multi-orbit high throughput satellites that will drive demand for mobile seamless connectivity, ST Electronics has started developing first-of-its-kind integrated SWAP (small Size, Weight and Power) satellite ground terminals for the automobile and aviation sectors.
Empowering smart city management
The sector’s proven solutions in deploying smart sensors or IoT networks for urban city management through the application of advanced analytics continued to gain traction. Contracts secured included a sensor network to enable near real-time management of urban water resources and smart street lightning in cities in New Zealand, the UK, Canada, Israel and the US.
Enabling safe and secure cities
The heightened security climate has resulted in an increased demand for public safety and security solutions. Examples of such contract wins are integrated counter-drone systems that detect, classify and track drones for a regional customer; an integrated communications system that enhances emergency and rescue operations for a security agency in Manila; as well as a sensor network that strengthens incident management and emergency response in Singapore. Cybersecurity solutions that had been contracted include a centralised platform for a utilities company that enables convergence of data sources from Information Technology (IT) and Operational Technology (OT) infrastructure, enhanced with predictive analytics. On the defence front, contracts delivering capabilities in Command, Control, Communications and Computers (C4), Unmanned Surface Vehicle (USV), satcom infrastructure upgrade, network training and ship handling simulation were secured.
Cloud Solutions that transform operations
Keeping pace with new technologies that are rapidly transforming many industries, ST Electronics was engaged to provide a multi-tenanted On-Premise Cloud Infrastructure that hosts and manages IT services and data assets in an agile, secure, and cost-effective manner.
These contracts are not expected to have any material impact on the consolidated net tangible assets per share and earnings per share of ST Engineering for the current financial year.
