Singapore, 24 October 2017 – Singapore Technologies Engineering Ltd (ST Engineering) announced today that its electronics arm, Singapore Technologies Electronics Limited (ST Electronics), has clinched about S$585m worth of contracts in the third quarter (3Q) of 2017 for Rail Electronics & Intelligent Transportation, Satellite & Broadband Communications, as well as Advanced Electronics and Information Communications Technologies (ICT) solutions.
Rail Electronics and Intelligent Transportation
Rail Electronics and Intelligent Transportation contracts of about S$125m were secured from local and overseas customers. These included the supply of the Communications and Platform Screen Door Systems for Bangkok's MRT Blue Line and Blue Line Extension, Passenger Information Systems for Wuhan Metro Line 11 and Saudi Arabia's Mecca Metro Line, rail electronics for Taipei MRT and Taoyuan Airport MRT line, as well as the Integrated Supervisor Control System, Maintenance Management System, Communications and Automatic Fare Collection Systems for Singapore and the region. These projects will be completed progressively till 2024.
Satellite & Broadband Communications
Contracts amounting to S$101m were awarded by government, telecom and enterprise users worldwide for the supply of broadband network, satellite network equipment and earth stations. Some notable wins included the selection of VT iDirect’s platform and its new iQ Series by IsoTropic Networks and Datagroup, Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT) industry providers, enabling the provision of High Throughput Satellite and next-generation services to their customer bases in Ukraine, North America, Europe and Asia. These projects will be completed progressively over the next three years.
Advanced Electronics and ICT Solutions
About S$359m worth of Advanced Electronics and ICT contracts were secured from customers in the public and private sectors. Some of these included Integrated Security Management Systems, Tactical Vehicles with Communications Systems, Operations as well as Maintenance and Engineering Services. These projects will be completed progressively till 2022.
Against the backdrop of a rapidly-evolving cyber environment, ST Electronics continues to build strong collaboration with key industry partners to develop industry-leading capabilities and products that strengthen the cyber security landscape of Singapore and other countries. In September, ST Electronics joined forces with IBM and Siemplify to develop the next generation Cyber Security Command and Control Centre, as well as partnered Cisco to deliver enhanced security capabilities and provide Managed Detection and Response Security Services.
It also launched the Black Computer L100, an industry-first hardware-based cyber security solution at GovernmentWare 2017. This is the result of its collaboration with Janus Technologies, Inc.; a US-based endpoint cyber security provider, which ST Engineering invested in through its Corporate Venture Capital unit.
These contracts are not expected to have any material impact on the consolidated net tangible assets per share and earnings per share of ST Engineering for the current financial year.
