Singapore, 13 January 2016 – Singapore Technologies Engineering Ltd (ST Engineering) announced today that its electronics arm, Singapore Technologies Electronics Limited (ST Electronics) has secured about $435m worth of contracts in the fourth quarter (4Q) of 2015 for Rail Electronics & Intelligent Transportation, Satellite & Broadband Communications, as well as Advanced Electronics & Information Communications Technologies (ICT) solutions.
Rail Electronics & Intelligent Transportation
Rail Electronics & Intelligent Transportation contracts of about $91m were secured from local and overseas customers in China, Hong Kong andTaiwan amongst others. This includes the provision of Passenger Information Systems, deployment of Command, Control and Communications (C3) Systems, Automatic Fare Collection System and Maintenance Management System as well as upgrading and maintenance services for Intelligent Transport Sub-systems and Fleet Management System. These projects will be completed progressively till end of 2020.
Satellite & Broadband Communications
For Satellite Communications, ST Electronics received contracts amounting to about $107m from government, telecom and enterprise users worldwide for the supply of satellite network equipment, earth stations and man-pack terminals.
Our Area Surveillance and Intrusion Detection system, AgilFence, has been recognised worldwide to offer highly reliable and yet extremely low false alarm physical protection to airports, high security facilities and high-end property developments around the world. In 4Q2015, new orders received include a contract to implement perimeter protection for a high-end gated residential estate in the region.
In addition to securing new contracts, we also reached an important milestone as TeLEOS-1, Singapore’s first commercial Earth Observation Satellite developed and constructed by ST Electronics, had been successfully launched on 16 December 2015 on board the PSLV-C29 rocket from Satish Dhawan Space Centre, India. The ST Electronics' mission control team is now conducting in-orbit tests to calibrate the onboard camera, control and orbiting systems. Although the onboard camera is not fully calibrated yet, imageries taken to-date showed excellent quality and resolution. With its optical payload of 1-m resolution, TeLEOS-1 will make valuable contribution to applications such as maritime security and safety, humanitarian aid, disaster relief, urban planning and environmental activity verification which demand high responsiveness for information update.
Advanced Electronics & ICT Solutions
About $237m worth of Advanced Electronics & ICT contracts were clinched from both public and private sectors. These contracts include provision of Intelligent Security Management System, Operations, Maintenance Support as well as advanced info-communication and sensor systems and services and location-based solutions to government agencies and commercial businesses. These projects will be completed progressively till 2025.
“In 2015, ST Electronics secured orders worth approximately $1.61b, taking into account contracts announced for the earlier quarters of the year.
It has been a year filled with exciting milestones for ST Electronics. The successful launch of TeLEOS-1 has strengthened ST Electronics’ position in the global space industry. Its excellent in-orbit performance has given our team of highly dedicated engineers every confidence to forge ahead to build even more advanced satellites.
In 4Q 2015, we have also commenced the construction of a fifth building at the ST Electronics cluster at Ang Mo Kio Electronics Park Road. When completed, this new facility will provide the space and opportunities for our engineers and IT professionals to work closely together, to solve problems, interact and innovate in the areas of Smart Nation solutions, software development and large-scale systems solutions,” said Mr Lee Fook Sun, President, ST Electronics.
A groundbreaking ceremony was held on 30 December 2015 for the new 30,000-square metre (gross floor area) building and when completed in early 2017, it will house various business units to strategically bolster the growth of ST Electronics’ core capabilities.
These contracts are not expected to have any material impact on the consolidated net tangible assets per share and earnings per share of ST Engineering for the current financial year.
