Elaine Chan, Project Manager, Airframe Maintenance, Commercial Aerospace, shares how she got into the aerospace industry and grown her career with us.

Q: How did you come to join the aerospace industry?

I got into aviation after watching a biographical movie about Amelia Earhart, the first female pilot to fly across the Atlantic Ocean. Her journey inspired me, and it motivated me to start my career in the industry!

Q: What do you like most about work?

After graduating, I looked out for companies that offered good prospects in aviation MRO and would reward accumulated work experience. I found that in my time here, ST Engineering consistently delivers on both of these, which I greatly value as an employee and I am always grateful for.

Q: What advice do you have regarding challenges at work?

Every job has its own set of challenges and daily pressures. I always prepare for worst-case scenarios and keep backup plans in mind. Doing this helps me stay calm and collected when dealing with difficult situations.

Q: We are starting to see more women today joining the aerospace industry. What advice do you have for women who are keen to explore a career in aviation MRO?

It is becoming increasingly common to find females working in the hangar or frontline of aviation MRO today. Women can make up for the lack of physical strength by displaying greater resilience and paying closer attention to details. So I would definitely encourage anyone interested in the industry to give it a shot!
