Customised Industrial Applications

Customised Industrial Applications

At Advanced Manufacturing Design Centre (AMDC), our deep expertise and rigorous quality controls can effectively be applied in various high-demand sectors including electronics, semiconductors, marine and offshore as well as energy, producing critical and customised end-use components with better performance. We have a close working relationship with industry certification bodies such as DNV and the American Bureau of Shipping for certification of our solutions for the marine sector.

More effective thermal management for electronics devices

In the electronics industry, devices are becoming increasingly smaller and more powerful. Thermal management is hence critical to ensure optimal performance and reliability. Drawing on our expertise in printing variable and complex structures, we have designed and produced a highly optimised system for effective thermal management. Latticed for better conductivity, our scalable solution can perform up to 200% better than traditional system benchmarks and is easier to assemble and deploy with its reduced weight and volume.

Phone casings with greater durability

While casings are often used with mobile phones and other portable devices for greater durability, conventional plastic casings often degrade after prolonged exposure over time. AMDC managed to develop and print a bespoke thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) casing for its customer; the high-quality TPU casing features a multi-textured surface and added impact protection.

High corrosion resistance components for marine applications

The closed impeller is a critical component in many marine systems but is difficult to manufacture and requires customised tooling due to its complex geometry. With end users facing long lead times for replacement spare parts, AMDC collaborated with Nikon SLM to develop a 3D-printed closed impeller solution that reduces production lead time by up to 90%. High-performance aluminium alloy created for 3D printing is used to achieve superior corrosion resistance in saltwater compared to the original aluminium alloy.
