ST Engineering’s Advanced Manufacturing Design Centre (AMDC) used additive manufacturing to design and produce custom-made mounts for medical equipment onboard aircraft. 3D-printed using an aluminium alloy, the mounts were weight-optimised and engineered in line with both airworthiness and mission requirements, as every little detail counts in cramped rescue operating conditions.
Designed for optimal human-machine interfacing, the mounts featured equipment displays raised to a constant line of sight to more easily monitor patients’ conditions under intensive care and a common grip feature which allowed for swift and effective handling of the equipment. Additionally, to facilitate a clean and uncluttered environment for optimal patient comfort and treatment, the mounts were designed to orient the equipment away from patients.
