In the Driver’s Seat

Senior Engineer Ryan Ng works in the Land Defence Systems team, where he supports the Bronco All Terrain Tracked Carrier(ATTC) in testing, design improvements and articulation-related engineering work.

Outside of work, Ryan turns his attention to a very different machine: his 1989 FC RX-7, known among car enthusiasts for its distinctive design and motorsport heritage.

Q: Tell us more about your role at ST Engineering.
My main focus is supporting the Bronco programmes, where I work on articulation-related engineering and vehicle configuration across development and trials.

The role takes me between the workshop and office. On the workshop floor, I inspect the vehicle's articulation system, such as its hinges, in operation, document findings and investigate issues observed during testing and trials. Back at my desk, I review the data, conduct analyses and develop engineering refinements and configuration updates for implementation.

Q: What has been one of the most memorable projects that you’ve worked on?
In 2024, I was part of a team deployed to Finland for two months to support the build of the first European-made variant, the Sisu GTT, in collaboration with Sisu. I continue to support the platform.

Earlier in my career, I worked on the ExtremV during its prototype phase, where my involvement in the platform’s early development helped hone my hands-on engineering, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

Q: Do you see any similarities between your work and your hobby?
Definitely. During my university years, I began sketching cars, and that interest has stayed with me ever since.

Q: What do automobiles represent to you?
From sketchbook to mechanical nitty-gritty aspects, automobiles are my kind of art. Whether I'm analysing vehicle performance, troubleshooting engineering challenges or restoring a classic sports car, I enjoy understanding how things work and finding ways to make them better.
