At Ecopower's Orlando operations, no two washes are the same — heat, rain, road trips, and tight teamwork are all part of Wash Technician Mike Belalcazar’s job. When he's not making engines shine, you'll find him tackling Ninja Warrior-style obstacle courses, lifting, and playing chess.
Q: What does a typical day look like for you as a Wash Technician at Ecopower’s Orlando operations?
It starts when I check in with my team, check and prepare our equipment up to standard for the day’s work, head out to the wash site, work as a team to safely and effectively perform the washes then head back to complete the paperwork to finish the day.
Q: What part of your work are you most proud of? Is there a particular aircraft or job that made you think "we really nailed that"?
Whenever we go on a road trip, I’m prouder of those jobs. A particular job I’m proud of was an engine wash my colleague Bill Rispoli and I did in Fort Bragg, North Caroline on a military aircraft. We travelled a long way for a quick wash, but working on a military base magnified the importance of the job. We really nailed it.
Q: Working in Orlando means heat, rain, and a fast pace. What keeps you motivated and what do you enjoy most about being part of the Ecopower team here?
The people that make up the Ecopower team here make me look forward to coming in, I would say that is what keeps me motivated. What I enjoy most is how the workload never falls on one person. It is even and fair and we are always here to help each other as a team.
Q: In your own words, what does Ecopower stand for, and how do you see your role contributing to the bigger picture?
For me, Ecopower stands for the environment, being eco-friendly with our processes and results, while also having a powerful effect and benefit for our clients, which extends our eco-friendly values.
Q: What new skills, techniques, or knowledge have you learned as a Wash Tech at Ecopower that you didn't have before?
I’ve learned new and more efficient mechanic techniques from working with small engines and overall, more knowledge on the specific aircraft we frequently wash..
Q: What advice would you give to someone just starting as a wash tech?
Do not be intimidated by the nature of our work, even though we work close to the engines, our processes are based on safety first. Be confident in our work process because nothing should feel unsafe when we follow our rules.
Q: When you're not making engines shine, what are you doing?
During my free time I like to be active, my main sport is obstacle course racing/Ninja Warrior based on the show American Ninja Warrior. I also enjoy weightlifting, calisthenics, and playing chess.
